The current Youth Mayor of Oldham is Samah Khalil. Samah attends events with Cllr Alexander, the Worshipful the Mayor of Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council, meeting residents and seeing the amazing work that goes on in our communities. Below is brief summary of what she has been up to in October.
October has been another jam packed month! This months highlights include opening the ‘Think Tank’ at Alexandra Park junior school and cheering on the runners at the Milltown races.
As you may know, mental health is one of my three priorities for the year. As part of this years campaign I have created a list of resources for young people to access help and support for their mental health. I’ve spread this message where ever I have been on my #YouthMayorsSchoolTour.
On Tuesday 17th October , we went down to London for the all party parliamentary group on youth affairs. Although it was an amazing opportunity and very interesting, I feel it would have been nice to have some more discussion and feedback. on 12th October, The Mayor and I along with Council leader Cllr Sean fielding took part in the dementia walk organised by Debbie Abraham’s MP. It was a good walk around one of the best parks in Oldham, Alexandra park and was so interesting to learn about the history of the park as well as raising awareness for dementia.
The thing I will remember this month is the VIP launch of the Oldham Community project. This is the Oldham college collaboration with lots of different people around Oldham including myself to create a Christmas single for the charity STOP THE TRAFFIK. It feels so good to be a tiny part of this great project and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.
