ELAINE DEVANEY – DIRECTOR OF CHILDRENS SOCIAL SERVICES
Within our last meeting of the year, we had the two newest members of Oldham Council’s managing team join us to learn about our work. Gerard Jones (Managing Director of Children and Young People’s Services) and Elaine Devaney (Director of Children’s Social Services) came to sit in our meeting to discuss what we are currently doing to improve the lives of young people in Oldham.
Within our meeting, we largely discussed the variety of work that current and previous Youth Councillors have participated in, such as:
- What is Oldham Youth Council?
- Motions to Full Council
- The Knife Crime Report
- Work within the Greater Manchester Youth Combined Authority
- Regional Work with YouthforiaAn organisation in which youth councillors from the North West meet up and work on campaigns and training.
- National Work with British Youth CouncilA Youth Lead organisation for young people aged 25 and under to influence and inform the decisions that affect their lives. - ConsultationConsultation is when members of an organisation gather information/feedback from members of the public or group on a project or scheme. Work with Make Your MarkA Nationwide campaign, run by UK Youth parliament, that gathers information on what is important to the youth of the United Kingdom.
- Attendance and Participation within All Party Parliamentary Groups
- Work going into the Youth Summit
- Questions and Answers
