Commissioning specs:
Commissioning has asked for young people to be involved in the recommissioning of services.
There are three services up for recommission:
- Young Carers Service
- Targeted Impartial Information Advice and Guidance.
- Return Home from Missing Independent Interview Process
Currently, all three services are ran by Positive Steps, and every few years it must be recommissioned.
YCllrs were given the specs of what we will be asked of the next service, and were asked to give their opinions on them.
After a discussion amongst groups, we reported amendments back as a group.
Later, YCllrs will review applications from services, and subsequently interview them.
Finally, we came up with a name to encompass all three services – we decided on Oldham Specialist Youth Services.
Youth Offer Survey:
Last meeting, Sue took our ideas regarding the Youth Offer Survey.
This meeting, she came back with the amended survey, and explained that more needed to be added, as the trial surveys did not achieve the desired outcome.
We went through, page by page, to make changes to the wording and the formatting of the survey – with a focus on making the survey more ‘young person friendly’.
Letters to MPs:
In light of the new Labour government, we decided to write to MPs regarding the Labour manifesto promise to lower the voting age to 16 and trying to bring more attention to the issue.
We wrote letters to Debbie Abrahams (MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth), Jim McMahon (MP for Oldham West, Chadderton and Royton), Angela Rayner (MP for Ashton-under-Lyne and Deputy Prime Minister) and Sir Keir Starmer (Prime Minister).
YCllrs were tasked with checking for grammar and wording mistakes, in order to have the final letter sent out by tomorrow.
