Welcome, apologies and icebreakers:
Chris briefly introduced the Rock St Centre, explaining that it will be the centre for youth services soon.
Meetings will aim to still be in the Civic Centre, but since elections have taken up the regular spaces temporarily, it was held here.
This week’s icebreaker was: the sun shines on.
Exploring themes:
Chris and Hassan went to the last GMCYA meeting, and the main focus of the meeting was what to do to tackle the national issues (Crime and Safety, Jobs and Benefits, Economy) from Make Your Mark.
The YC was split into groups of 3/4 to answer questions to reflect on national issues, which the GMYCA reps are going to take to the next meeting.
The questions were:
What does this mean to me?
Why is this important to young people?
What do I know about this theme already?
Is there anything already happening around the theme?
After this, YCllrs regrouped and discussed their responses, and generally felt that we need more information, which may result in a survey.
Also, there was a lack of knowledge of what is happening within both these areas, which is an issue.
We selected Jobs, Economy and Benefits as an issue that has potential to be a motion to full council, which will be discussed and this will be looked at in full detail at the next priorities meeting.
Events and trips:
Lucy, Niamh and Miranda are hosting an event centred around Women in Education through their College, and extended an invitation to all YCllrs.
AOB:
Chris mentioned that this is the new place, and it is important that YCllrs do not show up before 5:30.
In future, YCllrs have to let Staff know if they are taking public transport, so that they can escort them to the bus station.
Andrew – reiterating the importance of leaving the room as you found it, which was backed up by Chris.
