OYC Meeting Minutes – 04/10/2023
OYC have constitutional rights to ask Council to make changes in Oldham. They do this formally by attending a full council meeting and putting a motion to full council. More (CHRIS)
Using the NAOMIE structure for planning (Needs, Aims, Objectives, Method, Implementation and Evaluation), we split into 3 groups to write a motion on the cost of living. One group focused on free school meals, another on affordable places for young people to go, and the third group looked at free school stationary, potentially by asking Oldham Council and partner organisations to donate their unused calculators / merchandise / stationary, for school students to use.
The first half of the meeting composed of planning whilst the second half involved writing a draft.
The drafts will be presented at the next priorities meeting, where the most optimal subtopic will be picked and made ready for the final motion.
EVENTS AND TRIPS (CHRIS)
- A Mental Health event in the end of October – no dates confirmed
- An organisation in which youth councillors from the North West meet up and work on campaigns and training. More – Sat 07 Oct 2023 – 9:30am to 4pm – Oldham Civic Centre
AOB (The Youth Councillor who runs the meeting, heads up the organisation and has the casting vote. Or something to sit on but probably the first one on our site :-) More)
Chris mentioned that there is an interview panel on Monday 09 Oct at 4pm, lasting until 5pm, and asked if anyone is available to assist in this panel.
A youth councillor mentioned that the behaviour of some youth councillors were poor during meetings, and requested that youth councillors aren’t disruptive to make the meeting run smoother, and for people with disabilities to be able to understand what is going on.
