OYC Meeting Minutes – 27/09/17
WELCOME

Samah opened the meeting with the ‘Guess the Councillor’ Ice Breaker.
COUNTER TERRORISM
Jo Horton, Community Coordinator, from Oldham Council came into the Youth Council to talk about the Counter Extremism strategy, explaining Extremism, the strategy and her job to the YC. The Strategy, from the HM Government, has four sections; Countering extremist narrative, Building a partnership with all those opposed to extremism, Disrupting extremists, Building cohesive communities. The Community Coordinator role has four different sections; Build understanding the wider harms if Extremism, identify local partners, build networks, support groups to build capacity and amplify reach. After a brief explanation, Jo asked the Youth Council for their thoughts and questions.
MAKE YOUR MARK – MYP UPDATE
Chris gave a quick MYMMake Your Mark – A Nationwide campaign that gathers information on what is important to the youth of the United Kingdom. The ten issues are decided by members of the UK Youth Parliament. More update. Most school in Oldham have/are in the process of doing it.

Hidden Histories update – 12th October – Trip
ELECTION VIDEO
Katie split the Youth Council into groups for ideas for the 2018 Election Video (30-60 secs) to try to get the youth of Oldham (11-18 yr olds). After group discussion, the groups gave feedback to Katie, giving her a wide range of ideas for the Elections Video.
OFFICER UPDATES
A couple of the officers gave an update on their work and help they might need from the Youth Council.
