The Oldham Youth Council was officially formed in February 2006. We are a group of young people, made up of approximately 70 members, aged 11-21, who live, go to school/college or work in Oldham. The majority of our members are democratically elected but there is also a small number of co-opted young people who are underrepresented e.g. those with disabilities or care experienced young people.
We are an award-winning group and the only Youth Council to be awarded the Queens Awards for Voluntary Service (the MBE for voluntary groups).
Our overall aim is to represent the views of Oldham’s young people and give them a voice in all matters that affect their lives. We meet up every fortnight to discuss important issues and work to raise these issues with the Council, decision makers and other services that affect the young people.
