CICC Voice Missing From Home Consultation with Phoenix Team

A Voice for Oldham's Children Looked After and Care Leavers

CICC Voice Missing From Home Consultation with Phoenix Team

The Children in Care Council Voice group met up with Oldham Police Phoenix Team to discuss and explore WHY young people go missing from home and what could be DONE to make things better.

Young people discussed with the Phoenix team why young people go missing, the reason behind this could be many but young people were able to help Phoenix Team understand the various different reasons to why young people go missing.

Young people then discussed what police/family and friends think when young people go missing and what they must be feeling and going through. Police spoke to young people about the risks and dangers of going missing.

They further discussed what the young person may need and think at the time they go missing, the officers were able to discuss with young people about what they should/can do to ensure it is young person centred.

The last thing discussed at the meeting was what can be done to make young people less likely to go missing from home. Young people discussed how there needs to be better trained officers, more skilled, more friendly and the key is to actually listen to the young person and not make assumptions.

This was a really good meeting with the Phoenix Team and the consultation is to be made in to a report to then be actioned.
